HULU PLUS: HD, MORE SHOWS AND PORTABLE!

Hulu Plus is putting one more nail in the coffin of the actual Television with their new Hulu Plus plan. Sure, Hulu is and should be free but for an extra 10 bucks a month, the premium service gives you access to exclusively available content and a variety of currently running tv shows like The Office and House as well as a library of past shows and seasons. But the kicker here is that video will play in 720p HD and the service will be available on a wide array of devices including iPhones, iPads, Game Consoles, as well as Internet Connected TVs from Vizio, Samsung, and Sony. One DVR to Rule them ALL!

With the unfortunate scheduling of Glee’s return, V and the season finale of Lost all within the same time-slot (more or less)…in addition to the obligatory reruns of Designing Women (RIP Dixie), our meager DVR is getting it’s little hamster feet werrrrked. If only there was one machine to record them ALL!!! The monstrous SnapStream DVR is capable of recording up to 50 different channels and storing all that TV onto more than 100 TBs worth of hard drive space. Rupaul would, I’m sure, have a snazzy comment to say about that.
The DVR is described as closet-sized and connects to the television with a single coax cable. Hardware includes eight Xenon processors and 68 2-TB hard drives. The device boasts 13 years worth of recording storage (store every episode of the Golden Girls!) and it also has tools for searching through that massive amount of content to find what you’re looking for.
The reported price is around $2,000.
SnapStream is currently looking for a name for this impressive beast and will award a 16GB Apple iPad to the supplier of the winning name. I’d rather have one of the boxes I helped name, but an iPad ain’t too shabby either. More on that contest here.... Read more

CES: Samsung C9000 LED plus Wifi Remote!

The Samsung C9000 LED television, debuted at CES,  could impress most any TV afficionado on its own: a brilliant, pencil-thin display housed in brushed aluminum. Making the television all the more tempting is a Wi-Fi-based LCD remote that allows you to view content from other video sources. So if your boy is busying watching Steal Magnolia for the 200th time on Blu-ray, you can pretend to be enjoying it with him while watching the Jersey Shore–we’re hoping a headphone jack is included. The remote includes a touchscreen interface with haptic feedback and connects to the television via your home Wi-Fi network.... Read more
