The days when DJ’s could fetch up to 20 grand per club appearance have withered away like 56k and the US dollar and nothing signifies such more than the International Dance Party. No—not all those super fun gay dance parties in Europe that you keep hearing about, but rather this ordinary looking, black box. Upon first glance the IDP would appear to be nothing more than the case for that over sized hair dryer your queeniest friend took with him on your last holiday together, but for this box, there is much more than meets the eye.
Indeed, this case comes equipped with a dance radar (not developed by the US military) and once that radar senses dancing, faster than Lady GaGa’s Just Dance got stuck in your head this summer, it throws down 600W speakers blasting the worlds top dance, disco and electro music, smoke machine, laser and strobe lights and even a disco ball. We swear we met someone in London who could do the same thing, but then it rained and well, we never saw him again.
Anyway, the beat of the music is dependent upon the people it senses, and to keep you motivated, it’s got a nifty LED light box reminding you to “dance to get the party started” in 20 different languages.
The website says it’s for sale and is available for rent. We’re not so sure one could ever replace a good DJ, but short of making a gaggle of cute boys magically appear (2.0 maybe?), the IDP sure has all the right equipment and conversation appeal to turn it out at your next over the top, financially unfettered dance event. Even if you think this is sheer insanity, for now, check out the website…you’ve got to see the video of this thing in action and admire it for its utterly random, anthropological, arty and totally wacky gadget appeal.
